Funland Video Arcade

I am sure many of you reading this, have been here before. If you live especially in Washington and Oregon, you’ll more than likely at least heard of this place. Before I can even go over this arcade, the first thing you have to think about is where it is. Seaside, OR is a well known town along the Oregon Coast. I have been on many vacations here and recently stayed there again. Restaurants, gift shops, candy and ice cream stores, are what make up most of this place. Separating it from the ocean is Boardwalk Ave. This is limited to foot and bike traffic only. Many people take a stroll along it as they take pictures, and enter and exit the beach. Because this is about gaming, I will also add that Boardwalk Ave. is a good place to play Pokémon Go. There are metal poles along Boardwalk holding a lantern light that makes it all lit up at night. Every one of them is a Pokestop. So if you happen to be there, and need more pokeballs, it will be taken care of there. One popular area that many know about in Seaside is an arcade right in downtown called Funland.

This arcade has been around for quite sometime. There are not very many, if any arcades at all, that have stood the test of time that started out requiring quarters to play the games. From slow business to the coronavirus shutdown, they fell off the radar. This arcade has survived. Being in a place such as Seaside with so many seasonal tourists, it is a big part that keeps it going.

Gone are the days where it took quarters. It has adjusted with the times as it now goes by reloaded cards with any tickets you win being built into the cards. New games have been placed in the arcade over time. My favorite was Top Gun Maverick. You sit in it like you would a racing game and all players work together to take out the enemies. With how your seat moves around, it feels like you are up in the air with your fighter craft.

In the middle of the arcade is a whole room where you will find Fascination Roll ‘em.
Roll a ball and get 5 in a row just like in Bingo.

The arcade has two sides with a small connecting hallway. There is a whole separate gaming room in here that everyone that has been to this arcade knows about. That is Fascination Roll’em. This room is a whole competition of who can be the first to roll a ball into the holes and get five in a row. Once you do, you get awarded 100 tickets that go towards the arcade store where you spend your tickets. If you look at the picture on the left, you’ll see that the game has a card reader for each game you play. I didn’t used to be that way. Each game costed a quarter that you place next to you as the attendant walks by and picks it up. When you won, you got a coupon that was only good for the prizes in that particular room. So it has been improved, except for the fact that each game now costs 50 cents instead. But check it out and play at least one game. It is fun in there and you will want to try a few times believing you will win after having many close ones.

When you first enter the front side, in the south end in the back, is an expanded area. I recommend checking out the ticket game with two ropes. It is a race where both players pull down their ropes as fast as they can while their on-screen characters race up the wall. The winner wins the most tickets, but even the loser will get awarded some tickets. It is a fair deal. You’ll most definitely catch the game next to it. It has a big screen as up to 4 players sit down in front it as it is a team shooting game. Just be aware that each game will cost you seven dollars worth of credits on your card.

The arcade has a good balance of ticket games, pinball machines, shooting, and fighting games. Most of the ticket games are going to be on the side of the arcade where the store is. If you are hungry and want to stay in the arcade, you are covered. There is a pizza place in it with some seating. So there you go with Funland Video Arcade. If you have never been and plan to go to the Oregon Coast, you must stop here. This is an arcade that has thrived with the times.
