After installing this from my Game Pass subscription, I finally got around to starting this. There was much hype about a true Indiana Jones experience going into this. We’ve had some video game adaptations in the past such as Lego Indiana Jones 1 and 2, and the Staff of Kings, which is a 3rd person experience having nothing to do with the movies. I don’t know if it was good or not because I never played it. Seeing gameplay footage of The Great Circle, I was impressed. It was time to get started and see what this is all about.
From the opening scene to the first start of the gameplay, it didn’t take me long to get invested. So far I think it is what you expect from an Indy game. It has the feel as you climb over things, swing around, and stealthy moments. I can tell that there was a lot of work put in with how interactive the game is. It has the humor and it is how Indy would be in a movie. Whether you are completing a task, talking to someone, or taking out an enemy. Indy will say something funny.

The voice acting is exceptional. It’s hard to believe that it’s not Harrison Ford as the voice of Indy. In fact, I did not even know it wasn’t him until I researched it. That, along with the background music, and completing your tasks, it all blends together really well.
The biggest learning curve for me has been the combat. So far I’m questioning the role of how much shooting is going to be involved.

You get just one gun and that is a revolver. Do not rely on it and save it as much as you can. I haven’t been able to find much ammo for it. To make matters worse, your gun can break and you’ll need to have a repair kit to fix it. I’m figuring the game relies more on stealth, because many enemies get alerted when a shot is fired. You could compare it to Metal Gear Solid. Unless I find out otherwise, do not use your gun unless you have to.
This brings up the hand to hand combat. It seems like much of the combat focuses on fist fighting. You’re going to need to get good at it if you want to keep moving ahead. The fist fighting is surprisingly good.

It has that sluggish feel to it and I feel like I am playing a boxing game. But this makes it evermore so important to learn the mechanics. Pressing LB on the Xbox controller allows to you to block. You’ll have to time it right to counter punches and take out the enemies. The game will test your patience with this. Many times I have over reacted. This made me miss my punches and then get taken out. I’m still trying to hold back a little more. If you are getting attacked by more than 1 enemy at once, then it gets even harder. You’ll have to really look around you and see what is there. You’ll find many objects around. You can use many of them as weapons.
That completes my first review of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. I can’t to finish this and tell you more. If you remember the Batman Arkham games, you’ll know that you really feel like you were Batman. This is how I feel so far about this one. You really feel like you are Indiana Jones. Finding artifacts to complete puzzles will get you focused on the story.

In my next article, I took a vacation down to Seaside, OR and spent some time in the Funland Video Arcade. Probably one of the longest running video game arcades around. Be sure to come back then.
